ABOUT LISA & DEBRA ANN

 

Lisa Wolpe [IAGO] an actress, director, teacher, playwright and the Founder and Producing Artistic Director of the Los Angeles Women’s Shakespeare Company, with which she is currently celebrating her 20th season. Roles for LAWSC include Richard III, Iago, Romeo, Shylock, Angelo, Viola, Paulina, Ferdinand, Leontes, and more. She recently played Jason in Medea/Macbeth/Cinderella and Polina in Seagull for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival, presented her one-woman show Shakespeare & The Alchemy of Gender at Whittier College, and frequently acts and directs around the country. Wolpe’s current production of Hamlet is playing this fall at the Odyssey Theatre Ensemble and her Love’s Labours Lost played this summer at Shakespeare & Company in Lenox, MA.  

 

Debra Ann Byrd [OTHELLO] is the Founder and Producing Artistic Director of the Harlem Shakespeare Festival and Take Wing And Soar Productions where she currently serves as Chief Executive.  Ms. Byrd has guided this company's growth from its birth, forging a viable support organization for classical artists of color and theater arts groups throughout New York.  As an actor, producer, arts manager, and business leader she has received more than 20 awards and citations including the 2013 Take Wing And Soar Founder’s Award for 10 years of dedicated service to the community.  In 2009 she received the LPTW Lucille Lortel Award and the 2006 Josephine Abady Award for Excellence in “Producing works that foster diversity”.  She was recently selected for inclusion in the 2014 Editions of Who’s Who In The World, Who’s Who in America and Who’s Who of American Women.  Classical roles for the stage include:  Mrs. Malaprop, Lady Bracknell, Queen Elizabeth, Volumnia, Mediyah and Cleopatra.  Debra Ann received a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Acting from Marymount Manhattan College, did advanced studies at The Public Theater’s Shakespeare Lab, completed producer training at the Commercial Theatre Institute and received additional training from the Arts Leadership Institute, a unique Leadership Training Program for Arts Managers at Teacher’s College/Columbia University.
